No, this is a myth that we hear time and time again. A system that is designed correctly and efficiently does not need to be comprised solely of 150mm pipe centres. It all comes down to the output of the underfloor heating system with its relevant floor finish, balanced against the desired room temperature, and taking into account the heat loss of the room at the calculated flow and return temperature. It’s not a simple equation, but it’s more efficient than opting for 150mm pipe centres across the entire system.
We have designed systems with 250mm pipe centres pipework, as well as systems with 100mm pipe centres. It’s all dependent on the heat loss of the room.
